Earlier this week, I couldn’t sleep. So I did what I normally do when I can’t sleep – I watch music videos on YouTube.
The first video in my “here’s what YouTube wants you to watch” list caught my eye. I immediately thought I had missed a piece of new music from one of my favourite artists of the last 10 years: Chris Daughtry.
However, as I watched it, I quickly realised two things:
- It’s Chris Daughtry performing the Imagine Dragon’s hit – Demons (one of my current favourite songs)
- It’s a musical special that the American TV channel Fox broadcast in March 2016
Wikipedia describes The Passion as “a contemporary retelling of the Passion of Jesus Christ set to popular music with a mixture of live and pre-recorded segments.”
Daughtry portrays Judas in the musical. He gives an emotional, convincing performance of Judas’ turmoil of his betrayal of Jesus. This combines perfectly with the lyrics to Demons to create a powerful and emotional scene that – despite my lack of religious beliefs – I can’t stop watching!
